Planet A* - Actions for Biodiversity

Around 48,000 animal, 9,500 plant, and 14,400 fungal species live together with us humans in Germany. Each of these species has its role in the ecosystem. A tree filters around 18,000 litres of water, stores around 283 kilograms of carbon, and provides a home for many other organisms. Ecosystems provide us with clean water and fresh air – free of charge. These services provided by nature can hardly be replaced if they are lost, but they can certainly be appraised! For example, the water filtration of a single tree has an equivalent value of € 2700.

“Planet A* –Actions for Biodiversity” shows what makes biological diversity so unique, why we need it, what factors endanger it, and what each individual can do to stop the loss of species. “Planet A*” is aimed primarily at young people. It explains the most important facts about species extinction in a concise, striking, and interactive way, presents research and possible solutions and uses participatory elements to encourage reflection and discussion. The traveling exhibition is a project of the Research Initiative for the Conservation of Biodiversity (FEdA), which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The initiative currently brings together 44 research projects, whose work can also be discovered within the exhibition.
