BMBF- Research Initiative for the Conservation of Biodiversity (FEdA)

Deckblatt der Broschüre Forschungsinitiative zum Erhalt der Artenvielfalt

One of the greatest challenges of our time is the rapidly progressing loss of biodiversity. Despite national and international efforts, previous measures against this have been largely ineffective.

Politicians have recognized the urgency of this existential threat, also for us humans, and have launched the Research Initiative for the Conservation of Biodiversity (FEdA), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The initiative aims to provide the scientific basis for initiating a turnaround in biodiversity loss through concrete and comprehensive solutions. The FEdA would like to:

1. Develop and use innovative technologies and methods to map and assess biodiversity more efficiently than before

2. Deepen our understanding of the causes, dynamics and consequences of changes in biodiversity

3. Develop solutions and measures for the protection of biodiversity in dialogue with users

The projects funded in the initiative to close knowledge gaps and develop a “toolbox” of concrete measures to counteract the loss of biodiversity – in dialogue with politics and administration, business, and society.
