Artificial Intelligence Methods As a Tool for Biodiversity Research

In the third call of the research initiative, scientific projects on the topic of “Artificial Intelligence methods as a tool for biodiversity research” are funded.

Funding is available for interdisciplinary projects that address the beneficial use of AI and digitization in the field of biodiversity research, in one or more of the following application areas:

  • Network analysis and time series
  • Modeling/Monitoring
  • Data foundation – monitoring/digitization databases.

Exploring the Links Between Biodiversity and Human Health

In the second call for proposals of the research initiative, scientific projects on the topic “Exploring the links between biodiversity and human health” are funded.

Projects may address one or more of the following topics:

  • Integrity of aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems
  • Health threats from zoonoses
  • Agrobiodiversity
  • Non-communicable diseases
  • Urban and landscape development
  • Mental illness and resilience

Valuing and Safeguarding Biodiversity in Politics, Business, and Society

In the first call for proposals of the research initiative, scientific projects on the topic of “Valuing and safeguarding biodiversity in politics, business and society” (in short: “BiodiWert”) are funded. The BiodiWert projects can be assigned to three thematic areas:

  1. Policy instruments and approaches, as well as governance structures for the conservation, safeguarding, and promotion of biodiversity
  2. The value of biodiversity in business and the costs and risks of loss for businesses
  3. Valuing biodiversity in society and integrated pathways for transformation in political-administrative practice, business, and society
