European FEdA Conference 2022

European FEdA Conference 2022

From November 9-11, 2022, the first European FEdA Conference took place.

From November 9 – 11, 2022, the first European Conference of the BMBF Research Initiative for the  Conservation of Biodiversity (FEdA) entitled “Biodiversity and Human Well-Being – Europe’s Role in Shaping Our Future” took place as a digital event. More than 400 participants discussed what is concretely needed to stop biodiversity loss. Keynote speeches were given by Virginijus Sinkevičius, EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, and Humberto Delgado Rosa, Director for Biodiversity at the EU Directorate-General for Environment. In total, 62 speakers from 15 countries presented their work. Among them were five representatives of projects funded by the “BiodiWert – Wertschätzung und Sicherung von Biodiversität in Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft” funding guideline.

Conference Statement

As a further outcome of the conference, we would like to highlight the conference statement “Designing the European Research Landscape to Reverse the Trend in Biodiversity Loss and to Achieve Sustainability“:

The major global challenge for humankind is to achieve a system transformation towards sustainability in all of its three dimensions: “Prosperity” (economic issues), “People” (social issues) and “Planet” (environmental issues). Only if we resolve the conflicting goals of economic prosperity, peaceful coexistence and the preservation of nature, it will be possible to stop the loss of biodiversity, as well as climate change and environmental pollution and thus to safeguard human well-being.

If you can support the declaration, we would be very happy if you would sign it to encourage and incite the relevant stakeholders to initiate the necessary transformation of the research landscape. In doing so, you will support FEdA in its upcoming activities in this area.
