Tips and Guidelines

The allotted time of 10 minutes is shorter than you may think. What is your message? What short story do you want to tell about your research? Consider the following points while crafting your presentation:

  • Is there an interesting contradiction or conflict in your field of research?
  • Which results or discoveries were you most surprised by?
  • What is the most interesting aspect of your research and why?
  • Is there anything you discovered as a notable bycatch?
  • Are there any questions that your research could not answer? What are the consequences of these unknowns?
  • If you were to explain your research to a layperson, what would he/she find the most interesting about what you told him/her?
  • What are some typical questions or feedback that you usually receive when you tell others about your research?
  • Is there any myth or misconception that you would like to clear up?
Remember

Creativity is welcome, but not at the expense of content. Success depends not on the most spectacular performance, but rather on the ability to make a complex topic understandable and approachable.
